MoU with USAID Competitivness Project Signed

On February 8, 2010, representatives of the Serbian CPC, member of UNIDO/UNEP RECP Network and USAID Competitiveness Project (www.compete.rs) signed Memorandum of understanding.

The Center and the USAID Project through this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), seek to establish a framework for co-operation in promoting investment in energy saving and renewable energy technologies for commercial  purposes in Serbia by supporting firms to access finance available on the local market for energy efficiency enhancemen.

The Parties will collaborate to raise awareness among commercial enterprises (who participated in the CPCS cleaner production audits) of the availability of credit lines and other financing mechanisms for energy efficiency and renewable energy investments.

The Parties agree that the main tool for this activity will be the provision of support services by the Project’s Access to Finance Expert such as information on existing credit facilities, completion of credit applications, business plan preparation and other activities that will support the investment process.

The USAID Serbia Competitiveness Project, implemented by Booz Allen Hamilton, is a four year US$14.7m project which began in 2007 with the aim of stimulating economic development by significantly increasing the competitiveness of private enterprises in Serbia.  Recently, the project financed Preliminary energy audits for 10 companies with the aim of identifying energy saving potential.  Some of these companies have received financial consulting services to locate suitable sources of credit in order to realise energy savings investments.
