Companies From CP 2009-1 Receive UNIDO Awards

On November 19, in the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, 11 companies received UNIDO Awards for successful participation in the Cleaner Production 2009-1 project.
Petra Schwager (UNIDO) handed out awards to: Concern „Bambi – Banat“ Beograd, Tarket d.o.o Backa Palanka, AgroSava Chemical Beograd, AD Imlek Padinska Skela, Galeb Grup Šabac, FŽV Želvoz Smederevo, DP DES Beograd, Carnex ad Vrbas, Maxima Lučani, Knjaz Miloš Aranđelovac and Zvezda Helios Gornji Milanovac
The results of the project show that those 11 companies could save up to 2,800,000 EUR with reduction in consumption of 4 GWh/year of electricity, 700,000 m3 of water and 1,000,000 m3 of natural gas. If implemented, CP options could lead to decrease in CO2 emissions of 7,700 tons/year.
On behalf of Slovenia and Austria, who are donors for this project participants were greeted by Slobodan Sesum and Wolfgang Wagner. Aleksandar Vesic, deputy minister of environment and spatial planning of Serbia, reiterated support of his Ministry to the Center and thanked to donor countries and to UNIDO. He reminded that a set of environmental laws has passed in the parliament this summer, and that this should contribute to improve environmental situation in the country. Mrs. Schwager from UNIDO spoke about greening the industry and the launch of the UNIDO-UNEP Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production (RECP) Network. Dusan Stokic from the Serbian Chamber of Commerce stressed the importance of this project for Serbian enterprises. Dr Ivanka Popovic, the dean of the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy said that sustainable development will be important part of University curricula.
