Training for Consultants and Companies in Chemical Leasing
Organized by the Serbian Cleaner Production Centre, training for future consultants, as well as for representatives of interested companies, was held in the premises of the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy, Belgrade.
The discussion at the workshop
Reinhard Joas (BiPRO, Germany) and Ingrid Kaltenegger (Joanneum Research, Austria) gave series of presentations dealing about:
- basics on chemical leasing (concept, variation within the business model, contacts)
- practical exercises at prepared case studies
introduction to the toolkit
discussion of UNIDO projects to share available experiences - the role of consultants and their tasks (approach to clients, data collection, economic and environmental calculations, legal questions)

Christine Jasch (IOEW, Austria) spoke about the Environmental Accounting.
Representative of ECOLAB spoke about their experiences in applying Chemical Leasing business model, and about their plans in Serbia.
Among present companies were Helios, paint producer and Galeb, metal packaging manufacturer who are officially interestid in applying the model.
As a result, 13 potential consultants were trained, and some new couples (chemical producer - user of chemicals) were identified.
The Chemical Leasing (ChL) approach is a new and innovative instrument to promote sustainable management of chemicals and close the material cycles between suppliers and users of chemicals ("closing the loops"). The United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) plays the leading and coordinating role for the implementation and further development of ChL.
