Cleaner production

Cleaner production is a preventive, company-specific environmental initiative. It is intended to minimize waste and emissions and maximize product output. By analyzing the flow of materials and energy in a company, one tries to identify options to minimize waste and emissions out of industrial processes through source reduction strategies. Improvements of organization and technology help to reduce or suggest better choices in use of materials and energy, and to avoid waste, waste water generation, and gaseous emissions, and also waste heat and noise

Official UN definition of defines CP as
"the continuous application of an integrated environmental strategy to processes, products and services to increase efficiency and reduce risks to humans and the environment".

The idea is that industrial processes can often be improved in ways that not only reduce the amount of waste, and therefore pollution
, but also save or make money for the company or agency, in other words a win-win situation.

The Cleaner Production Centre of Serbia offers to companies consultancy in assessing the situation on their site, making environmental policy, improving operations in terms of raw material usage, energy efficiency, waste management and other aspects of business. The Centre works with network of UNIDO certified CP consultants involving chemical engineers, mechanical engineers, economists, lawyers, etc.

Strategies of Cleaner production are divided in three levels:

  1. Level 1. Reduction at the source
  2. Level 2: Internal Recycling
  3. Level 3. External Recycling

That means that we encourage companies to think in innovative and creative way about  dealing with waste and emissions at the place were they are generated, not to think about so called "end-of-pipe" solutions. In this way, companies:

Save Money
Preserve Environment
Become respected member of local community
Contribute to quality of life, sustainable development of the country
